Puncuation and Horses
I received an interesting piece about the history of punctuation in my Ragan Daily Headlines. And it got me thinking about my feelings toward the little ink spots, and how I decribe them to my 8-year-old lately.
Period <.> The horses pulling up after a Sunday morning ride.
Comma <,> Moving from a trot to a walk to catch one's breath.
Semicolon <;> Changing directions.
Colon <:> Salutes the coming list.
Question mark >This horse doesn't get out much, so why let him down when he's out?
Exclamation point The awkward cheerleader of the written word.
Ampersand <&> If someone wants to use this mark in text, the individual should first go to court for permission.
