The Last Word

I like a good obituary. I like writing them; I like reading them.

An obit is usually the best resume a person will ever have, summing up a life with the events we'd dismiss in ourselves as nothing special but which are exactly those things that make us special.

Obituaries are also unique in that the subject isn't going to add to his or her life. The obit we read is, indeed, the last word on a life, not the last word until next year.

Here's a new favorite, published in The Seattle Times, Saturday, June 18.
